Brown vs. Board of Education Interpretive Center, Topeka, Kansas, USA

The Monroe Elementary School in Topeka, Kansas is a National Historic Site commemorating the landmark US Supreme Court decision of 1954, which ruled that segregated schools were unconstitutional, sparking the Civil Rights actions of the 1950s and 1960s.

Our key challenges included the need for careful consultation with experts and stakeholders, sensitivity to the highly emotive content, and sensitivity to the historic fabric of the building.

A 360-degree multimedia audio-visual experience begins a confrontational and emotive journey through subsequent galleries that combine IT, audio-visual, physical interactive and graphical components.

We collaborated closely with audio-visual specialists Hillman & Carr Inc. to create a seamless graphic style across all media.

o National Preservation Honor Award

"... an important educational legacy, a testament to the triumph of the human spirit that it now represents."
