Alutiiq Museum, Kodiak, Alaska, USA

This new museum presents the history and culture of the Alutiiq peoples using their artefacts and stories. HSD worked closely with the client team to evolve an interpretative concept and content. Zones reflect important aspects of Alutiiq life and culture. A strong, clean approach to the design reflected the client's desire for clarity of the collection and messages. Understanding of cultural sensitivities was paramount throughout the process.

A fast-track schedule required all planning and implementation be completed in less than six months. Media and materials were selected for quick, reliable delivery, without compromising on durability, finish or aesthetic effect. Our project management role included coordination of and guidance to the exhibit fabricators, quality control, and liaison between all parties.

"This was a short time line project and the fact that time was of the essence never seemed to bother [Haley Sharpe] . . . [they] handled all tasks smoothly and efficiently and [their] accountability was impeccable. Not a detail was missed throughout the life of the project . . . I cannot speak highly enough of Haley Sharpe Design."

Jana Turvey, Chief Administrative Officer (Afognak Native Corporation), 2006
