Mystic Seaport – the Museum of America and the Sea, Connecticut, USA
America's leading maritime museum appointed us to help attract new audiences and to revitalise the original vision of Mystic Seaport for the 21st century. The ideas and collections of the museum were to be re-evaluated and reinterpreted more meaningfully for broader audiences of the new century.
The site is extensive and complex including ships, a working preservation shipyard, historic buildings as well as museum exhibits. We assembled a team of master planners, designers, interpreters, and value analysts to join with the client team in moving the project forward quickly.
The refocusing of attractions now includes creation of a landmark building that will offer all-weather exhibition, entertainment, retail and comfort facilities. Exterior attractions are reinterpreted and new attractions are being created, including a theatre to provide a powerful experience of ‘ships and the ocean'.
"You've got the 'wow' factor in spades ... it's the best thing I've seen in twenty-five years as a trustee."
Wade Thompson, Trustee, Mystic Seaport
